Kim’s Story

Kim is pictured with 4 year Alexander O’Quinn from Geraldton. It’s his first time using a wheelchair that he’s borrowing from the Centre’s equipment loan program.

Tracey Boyechko, mom to past client Samantha, recently stated, “It takes a special person to work with the children and families at George Jeffrey Children’s Centre, and Kim Sjolund has been one of those special people”.

March 31, will mark a bittersweet day for the Centre as Kim wraps up her 22 year career to embark on her next adventure – retirement.

As the Seating and Mobility Technician, she’s worked closely with parents and therapists to configure and/or design the best, and safest, equipment that would help each child meet their everyday needs. Kim has truly enjoyed her career – especially working with the children and their families, saying, “I have NEVER not wanted to come to work”.

When asked about her thoughts on donor impact at GJCC, Kim shared, “It’s incredible! Donors have helped us to purchase utility vans allowing us to get equipment to client homes and to purchase an auto calibrator for the pressure mapping assessment tool allowing us to observe client seating in real time so we can make immediate adjustments for ideal safety and comfort.”

In her retirement, Kim plans to travel, spend time with family, practice yoga, and ride her motorcycle along-side her husband. We wish Kim all the best!
